Le Tournoi football: Thousands raised for charity

IT was all about football this weekend as over 1,100 men, women and children took to the pitch and raised thousands for charity.

Held at Les Quennevais all day Saturday and Sunday, Le Tournoi 2008 saw six-a-side teams battle it out for a host of various trophies.

The competition, which is already estimated to have raised over £10,000, was raising money to help disabled children take part in various sports. The Le Tournoi brand also includes golfing and sailing charity events through the year.

Organiser Andy Le Seelleur was delighted with the success of the event. He said: ‘Without doubt it was the best Le Tournoi football tournament yet. The football, the attitude, the work of the volunteers and the weather were all perfect and that helped it become a great weekend.

The eventual winners of the men’s tournament was 365tickets.com, who beat HSBC Int on penalties in the final.

UBS beat DIS Electrics 5-1 to win the Plate, with ‘7 beans and a Jock’ winning the ladies’ tournament. There were also special matches and training organised for children of all ages and players with special needs.
