‘Splash plans ‘could destroy local habitats’

AN environmental group has expressed concerns about hotelier David Seymour’s proposal to develop the Watersplash.

Friends of Les Mielles – committed to protecting the area of special interest – have written to Mr Seymour expressing their fears about the project, which proposes to build a £10 million ‘world class’ family surfing centre.

Mr Seymour is receiving comments from the public before submitting an application for the scheme which could include a small skateboarding bowl, a climbing wall for younger children, a surfing shop, casual and fine dining restaurants, entertainment facilities and six surf lodges with a total of 24 beds for visitors.

Friends of Les Mielles, a group which was set up 40 years ago, say that the plan proposes to build a car park on an area of coastal strip which they say would have an impact on wildlife. ‘Primarily, the area of coastal strip to the north and south boundary would be built over/turned into a car park, which clearly demonstrates no concern for the local wildlife habitat or the natural rugged landscape that forms the character of Les Mielles,’ they say.
