Out of the Blue Festival

HUNDREDS of Islanders dined al fresco at the Out of the Blue maritime festival at the Waterfront over the weekend.

Food and drink was the main draw to the event and people sat in sunshine or rain, depending on which day they visited, eating scallops, beancrock pasties and drinking locally-made cider or champagne. The Norman French Market was there with a wide range of produce for sale from dried pineapples to fresh croissants and cheese. Other stalls were selling hand-crafted baskets, jewellery and picture frames.

Local musicians – Text Messengers, Jenkins Ear, Well Swung Jazz, Sea Shanties and Kevin Pallot and the Pinnacles – entertained the crowd, as did the UK street theatre company Dodgy Totty – Ladies of the Waves, who performed the world’s only dry land synchronised swimming act. And Vertigo Stilts – The Lobsters, which were hard to miss in their bright pink costumes towering over everyone while they sang.

Many children had their faces painted or helped Lisa Macdonald create a large maritime art installation out of recycled materials.nextpagepx_0571482.jpgnextpage
