Jersey teams opt out of Jeremie Cup

COCA-Cola Jersey Football Combination champions St Paul’s and Jersey Scottish have both opted not to play in Guernsey’s Jeremie Cup this season.

The GFA recently launched their new-look Channel Islands competition, which will be a straight knock-out between Guernsey’s and Jersey’s top four clubs, but St Paul’s and Scottish have not entered on financial grounds.

St Paul’s president Charlie Browne (pictured) said: ‘Our club decided weeks ago that we would not enter the Jeremie this season because of the financial implication.

‘It cost us nearly £1,600 just to play the Upton Park Trophy final in Guernsey last year and that is not right. Our team were split up over several flights too; it was very costly and we have decided that we’d rather put that kind of money into the junior section of our club.
