Appeal for Broadlands victims nears £16,000

NEARLY £16,000 has so far been donated to the appeal for those made homeless by the Broadlands fire – and generous Islanders are still giving.

The States have also pledged to pay the £10,000 bill for rehoming many of the victims, who lost everything in the blaze, in hotels and guest houses. They have also issued information for the 20 or so Polish nationals who were affected by the fire last Monday.

Most of those who lived in the St Peter lodging house have now found a new permanent home. The emergency fund was set up last week by the Parish of St Peter last week and arrangements are now being made to distribute this money.

States emergency planning officer Mike Long said: ‘Money has been allocated to pay the bills from the hotels and guest houses which Jersey Tourism contacted on the night to ask for help during the emergency.’
