Failing to look after the pennies and pounds

Failing to look after the pennies and pounds

Transport and Technical Services – in an apparent bid to make 2008 their worst year ever – revealed this week that the price on some parking paycards and season tickets had been wrongly adjusted to take account of GST and were too expensive.

This gave the department an extra £2,000 – amazing how quickly little percentages add up isn’t it. Anyway, no harm done financially as those out of cash can reclaim it if they have the right bits of paper and any remaining money will be donated to the Association of Jersey Charities.

Which, in a way, is shame because it would almost have filled the little hole created by the Treasury who admitted to recently and accidentally shredding £2,500. Both mistakes fall into the are-you-going-to-tell-them-or-shall-I school of administrative errors. Little harm has been done but people are always going to bring it up at dinner parties.

In the light of these mistakes maybe Tesco should think twice about sneaking over the Channel. After all, if every penny counts this may not be the place they were looking for.
