Our landlord was right. What did we want to go to Fort Regent for?

From C Gowlett.

NOW that I am home from my short break in Jersey, and having got over the frustration caused by the following incident, could I publicly thank the lady who came to our rescue?

On Friday 25 July my wife and I wanted to descend from Fort Regent to the town below. Being unable to climb or descend stairways because she is disabled, we inquired at the reception area about elevator facilities.

We were told that there were two elevators which would take us down. We found the first one, but were unable to locate the second. A lady who noticed our predicament offered to assist us in finding this other elevator by inquiring of staff as to its whereabouts.

She did eventually find its whereabouts, but after 15 minutes of contact with employees at the complex, she was unable to get any assistance from them in helping us descend to the town.

In an offer we couldn’t refuse, the lady drove us down in her own car. So, to this good Samaritan who spent 15 minutes of her own time in an effort to help us, may we say, the short ride in your Jaguar was not at all disappointing and your assistance was greatly appreciated.

I think the episode just mentioned would never have occurred if we had thought over the comment more seriously of our landlord, when he said: ‘What do you want to go to Fort Regent for?’
