We should turn the old JCG building into a hospital or rest and recuperation centre

From Colin Griffiths.

YOU may be aware that there is currently only one hospital ward available for returning injured UK troops from the current conflicts in the Middle East.

The majority of the injured are farmed out around the country to wherever there is space.

There is currently a petition to be sent to Gordon Brown being circulated which asks him to provide a centralised medical facility for the UK service personnel who have been injured in the service of their country.

I would like to suggest that this gives us a real opportunity to make a genuine contribution to the forces with whom our security ultimately rests.

We currently have the old JCG site lying derelict. I am sure that the site would be suitable for the construction of a hospital or a rest and recuperation centre which we, as an Island, could offer the UK government as a contribution to our defence costs.

If the planned increase in our Island residents takes place as forecast, we will certainly require new updated medical facilities at some time in the future.

This proposal would therefore provide for the present, as well as making provision for the future.

Lastly, it might go some way to mitigating our tarnished reputation under the current members of our Island government.
