Compared to Harcourt’s development, we’re not getting a lot for the money

From Brian Hotton.

I AM sure there will be no U-turn on the £105 million incinerator. However, I believe the public should know some facts.

We have been told that the proposed Harcourt Development is going to cost £330 million. For this there will be hundreds of apartments, offices, restaurants, a car park for 1,400 cars, a winter garden and of course a £45 million pound ‘sunken road’.

An awful lot of ‘gains’ for so little money (£330 million), when you compare that with what we are getting for £105m at La Collette – one building which, according to some people, is already out of date.

Now someone is, I believe, trying to pull the wool over our eyes. By ‘our’ I mean the ordinary people of Jersey.

Is this going to lead to another massive overspend?

It is about time, as has already been suggested in these columns, that all States Members show the public their CV, so that we can see where they were educated – that is, if they were.
