Commonwealth team gets a backer for Pune

JERSEY’S Commonwealth Youth Games team – which travels to India in October – has finally found a sponsor.

Following an appeal for backing in the media Sanne Group has come forward to back the 12-strong squad of athletes who will be representing the Island next month in tennis, swimming and athletics in the Pune Games. Alan Cross, the secretary general for Commonwealth Games Association of Jersey, said the support would be an immense help to the team.

He said: ‘We are delighted that Sanne Group has stepped in to ensure that the expenses of taking our team to India are covered and that we have found a sponsor that is sympathetic to the needs of young elite performers in sport. The four tennis players, four swimmers and four athletes will do their utmost to justify their selection and Sanne Group’s support when competing in this prestigious event.’

Head of change management and communications at Sanne Group Andrew Goodyear said the opportunity was a ‘natural extension’ of the support they already give to young trainees in the company, as well as Jersey’s U15 and U16 rugby teams.
