FIRSTLY I would like to thank Deputy Caroline Labey and Senator Freddie Cohen for their vote for common sense, along with all others who voted against GST on food and fuel. To those who voted to keep GST on foodstuffs, I hope you have enjoyed your brief tenure in the States.
It is sad enough that a tax of this type was introduced at the most inopportune time, to say the least, in total opposition to the wishes of the people. When any government stops listening to the people, it becomes the enemy of the people it purports to serve.
Democracy was not the victor on this matter at all, as those who voted to keep GST on food and fuel actually voted against the people, and against common sense.
I do hope the JEP posts the names of those States Members who feel that their opinion on this matter was superior to the people’s. Then we can chose to retire them, as they well deserve.
