Abuse: An apology

From D Gray.

I AM an old-age pensioner, born in Jersey but having lived in the West Midlands for 20 years, who has followed the Haut de la Garenne abuse story and am amazed that there seems to be such reluctance by the Chief Minister to make any apology to the victims.

This reluctance seems to be because of a fear that compensation may have to be paid to victims. Yet several million pounds have been poured into an inquiry which may only result in a couple of prosecutions.

Surely the right thing would be an official apology and any compensation claims not to be fought by the States. This would show that Jersey is a caring, compassionate Island and the victims would be allowed to get on with life.
