Super Dingle gets third spot

BRUCE Dingle has topped a cracking Super Moto season with a third place finish in the Aprilia Cup Championship.

And Micky Bertram lies in fifth place in the Clubman’s Championship, with another meet to go. Dingle, who is supported by Condor Ferries and Education, Sport and Culture, picked up a race win, as well as a second and two third-place finishes, at the last round of the championship at the City of Manchester stadium.

Dingle (pictured) had raced a brilliant qualifier that put him in pole position, and he took the first race of the day by a comfortable margin. In his second race Dingle again rocketed into the lead, but lost the front grip of the bike as he left the dirt and dropped to 12th position.

Yet despite a challenging two-jump dirt section, Dingle overtook most of his challengers with skill to finish in third place. Dingle again shot off in the next race, gaining a three second lead, but a costly error led to him clipping a straw bale, bending his back brake lever, and jamming it on the footrest – though he managed to kick it free to salvage third at the flag.

The final race of the day was for double points, which saw Dingle’s fourth first place start of the day, and he kept his lead until the last lap when he was baulked by back markers. That cost Dingle another first, though a second place gained him second overall, a place on the podium and a third place finish in the season championship.

Bertram qualified in tenth place for an A group position in the Clubman’s Championship, though the first race saw a bottle neck into the dirt section which left him way down the field. With limited overtaking on a tight and slippery track, Bertram finished 13th at the flag. There was more disappointment for Bertram in his second race, as he finished in 18th, though the third race saw him riding midfield and gaining tenth position, as he had qualified.

With double points on offer for Bertram’s final race, he made a much better start, and pushed hard to finish tenth, and 11th overall.
