A better choice for a polling station

A better choice for a polling station

From David Beuzeval.

IT was very pleasing to see so many, especially young electors, queuing to vote at the First Tower polling station on Wednesday evening.

Much effort has been given to encourage Islanders to register on the electoral roll. St Helier, in particular, has made a very determined effort to increase the numbers.

I do, however, feel that if the polling station for St Helier No 3 was changed to a more accessible location, even more would vote.

Some years ago when First Tower School was being refurbished, St Andrew’s Church Hall was used for this purpose.

I understand that a covenant exists between the parish and the school but I believe that, despite the cost of hire, the church hall would provide a more accessible site, affording better parking, allowing a good traffic flow and if the weather was inclement it would be far more practical.
