It’s time for Islanders to name their heroes

ISLANDERS have until the end of this month to nominate their sporting, education, or charity heroes for a £10,000 bursary.

The Flybe Island Heroes scheme, in association with the Jersey Evening Post, hopes to honour the Island’s unsung heroes in the community.

Nominations for the award must be in writing and will be judged by a panel featuring Guernsey’s former Southampton and England footballer, Matt Le Tissier, the chairman of the Association of Jersey Charities, Advocate Chris Renouf, assistant director of Education, Sport, and Culture, Derek de la Haye, general manager for market development of Flybe, Ian Taylor, and JEP marketing manager David Edwards.

They will whittle the entries down to a shortlist of nine candidates, three in each category, from which the public will vote for three winners using voting forms printed in the JEP.

Success in this competition brings with it a £5,000 cash prize and £5,000 in Flybe travel vouchers, which will be presented by the Lieutenant-Governor, Lieutenant-General Andrew Ridgway, on 9 December at Government House.
