Facebook crash site condemned

YOUNG drivers in Jersey and Guernsey have been bragging about their high-speed car crashes on popular social networking site Facebook.

Over 250 members have joined the ‘Gsy & Jsy Car Crashes’ group, which encourages Channel Islanders to post pictures of their shunts along with a brief description of what happened. 86 pictures have been posted and accompanying comments on pictures taken in Jersey include boasts of exceeding 80 mph on roads in the Island. Police are now investigating.

A car with a major dent in the side panel receives the remark: ‘My Ford after hitting a tree sideways at 85 mph wheels still in opposite lock’, while another with rear end damage brags about ‘going around burger bar corner at 105 mph’. Another driver has clarified his friend’s statement attached to a picture of his ruined car that he was ‘losing it at 80 round Pier Road’ with the comment: ‘For me to be doing 80 it would need to be on the limiter, and I’m not that stupid, I was actually doing about 55-60 mph’.
