Cohen under renewed fire over ‘bias’

TWO Senators have raised doubts over the Planning Minister’s ability to make an impartial decision on the Waterfront and have suggested that his position is now untenable.

For the second time in a week, Senator Freddie Cohen has come under attack from two senior politicians over the £350m Esplanade Quarter development deal.

In an open letter, Senators Ben Shenton and Jim Perchard accuse Senator Cohen of ‘being either naive or arrogant’ in deciding a planning application in the name of an unapproved developer.

They have now formally requested that Senator Cohen gives an immediate undertaking that he will not consider the current application on the Esplanade Quarter until the States have approved the developer. But speaking from his holiday in India this morning, Senator Cohen robustly defended his position and accused both politicians of having a complete lack of understanding of his duties under the Planning Law.
