Guernsey edge to win

JERSEY’S under-17 hockey boys put in a tremendous performance in the annual Deutche Bank inter-insular, but were unable to stop Guernsey taking the honours 3-2.

Sunday’s match at Les Quennevais was a pulsating affair with the hosts opening the scoring, Guernsey roaring back to lead 2-1, Jersey equalising and so nearly forcing a draw after the Sarnians scored their third and final goal.

Guernsey started the stronger, winning a number of short corners, but the Jersey defence, marshalled by captain William Southall contained them well.

The combined forces of each side will certainly be an exciting prospect when they unite in the Channel Islands team for the county championships in February.
