New Treasury Minister: Philip Ozouf

THE new Treasury Minister is Senator Philip Ozouf.

The former Economic Development Minister was elected to his new role by the States this morning after a surprise challenge by Deputy Geoff Southern for the job. The vote was 38 to 13.

Senator Ozouf, who placed fifth in the recent Sentorial election, replaces Senator Terry Le Sueur who was elected as Chief Minister on Monday.

The House are sitting today to elect Ministers and chairmen of committees and scrutiny panels.

Candidates were proposed by Chief Minister Terry Le Sueur, although it was made clear that the Jersey Democratic Alliance would be putting forward challengers to most of the positions.

Senator Le Sueur’s proposals were: Treasury: Philip Ozouf. Economic Development: Alan Maclean. Environment: Freddie Cohen. Health: Paul Routier. Home Affairs: Ian Le Marquand. Social Security: Ian Gorst. Education: James Reed. Transport and Technical Services: Mike Jackson. Housing: Terry Le Main.
