The last straw

HORSE-owners are being forced to step up security after a spate of thefts from stables.

Several people have reported on a British Show Jumping Association Jersey internet forum that bales of shavings and haylage have been stolen from their stables in recent weeks. The matter has been reported to the police by one victim, who said that if the thieving continued they would ask the authorities to take the complaint further.

‘Do not think that because I have several bales of shavings in stock I have not noticed that some have been removed each week for the past few weeks?’ said the victim, who did not want to be named. Another victim described how they had installed CCTV and padlocked their tack room after suffering the theft of hay and rugs from their stables in the west of the Island, adding that ‘there will come a time when we will have to lock our trailers as well’.

Yard owner Rose Hull, pictured with Solo, said that she had been forced to move her haylage stock after around eight bales went missing from one of her fields.
