Nativities: Grands Vaux

KEY Stage two children at Grands Vaux School took to the stage last week to perform a unique take on the Christmas story.

They gave two performances of Sheik, Rattle and Roll – a musical by Sheila Wilson – which tells the story of three kings called Sheik, Rattle and Roll who all have very different and entertaining personalities.

The upbeat performances, one last Tuesday evening and one the next afternoon, were packed full of catchy songs that were especially written for the musical.

It included two solos, one performed by Kelsey Skinner, who played Mary, and one by Kirsty Legg, who played one of the kings.

Children from year three at the school, dressed as farmyard animals, provided the chorus for the production, year four pupils took on the role of the villagers and students from years five and six played the lead characters.

The Christmas Story

THE Christmas story at Grands Vaux School was told in rhyming verse through the eyes of sleeping children.

Five storytellers took to the stage to deliver the traditional story of baby Jesus which started with the lines: ‘We love to go to bed at night and teddy and I turn out the light and as we dream the night away, baby Jesus was born that day.’

Teacher Hilary Jones created the story and said that the play, staged on Friday, was fantastic. She added: ‘The whole production came to life with the children singing and dancing to the Christmas story.’
