THE end of an era was marked at the weekend when the Borsalino Rocque served Sunday lunch for the very last time.
The restaurant — founded by the late George Skelley, who died in August last year, his wife Rosemary and brother Brian — was packed full of loyal customers. All of them had come to say farewell to a restaurant that had epitomised casual dining for the best part of three decades.
Borsalino Rocque opened in 1980 and encapsulated Mr Skelley’s revolutionary style of delivering casual and relaxed dining in Jersey with informal, bistro-style venues.
The closure was marked with a Sunday lunch, and customers took away bits of restaurant memorabilia including salt and pepper pots and the last menu produced. Head chef Hans Hiller, who has been with Borsalino Rocque since 1981, was rushed off his feet trying to keep up with the demands of those keen to be part of the last-day celebrations.
Cars packed the car park, the nearby slipway and the surrounding housing estates in a bid to have a last drink at the venue.
