Battle chairman wants week-long festival

Mo Le Var, who took over as chairman last December, now wants to start working closely with Visit Jersey and the Parish of St Helier to explore the options for extending the event.

He said that a seven-day festival could include shop-front competitions and tea parties and culminate in the two parades.

Last year the Economic Development Department commissioned a report which proposed a number of changes to the event, including holding it earlier in the summer and staging the parade through town and Mr Le Var made some changes to the way the day was run this year, including staggering starting points for the floats along Victoria Avenue.

A Moonlight Parade Souvenir Supplement featuring photos from Friday evening’s parade will be inside Monday’s JEP.
