Vandals target award-winning Battle float

The Grouville Parish float, Latin Fantasy, which won the Grand Prix des Paroisses at last week’s near sell-out event on Victoria Avenue, has had part of its centrepiece ripped off and another section stolen.

Parishioners behind the creation say that the fingers of a female Latin dancer, which took more than 1,000 hours to make, have been pulled off and her red shoes have been taken.

Following Friday’s moonlight parade, the team behind the Grouville float – which is due to be used in a charity event to raise money for Diabetes Jersey in October – moved their creation up to a field near the team’s battle shed in the parish, where it was left for a few days for the public to view and it was there, between 4 pm on Saturday and Monday morning, that the damage is believed to have been done.
