Building partially collapses in Tamba Park fire

Martin Allix, head of operations, said the blaze began when one of the park’s dinosaurs, which was inside the building, caught fire.

According to Chris Collins, Tamba Park’s operations manager, a mouth of a T-Rex was ‘undergoing dental work’ when a spark from the welding machine set fire to the rubber casing.

Four fire engines and a water carrier are on the scene.

Jersey Fire and Rescue say the blaze affected greenhouses and involves gas cylinders, plastic and vehicles. A number of roads have been closed and people are being advised to avoid the area.

Mr Allix said: ‘The structure of the building where the dinosaur was housed has been affected and there has been a partial collapse. We have had difficulty accessing some of the rooms within the building so we have had to make entrance from outside through the cladding.’
