Mediator could be brought in to help with taxi dispute

Public rank taxi drivers had threatened strike action yesterday after Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel unveiled a raft of changes to tariffs – including maximum fare charges.

However, the strike was avoided after last-minute talks between the minister and representatives from the Jersey Taxi Drivers’ Association on Tuesday.

Mick Tostevin, president of the JTDA, said that drivers had agreed not to strike – for the time being at least – but that there were still a number of issues to iron out. And he told the Infrastructure Department that members wanted someone independent to mediate the dispute.
