Chef admits attacks on police officers at seaside festival

Nicholas David Keane (32), who lives in staff accommodation at the Ommaroo Hotel, committed the two assaults on Sunday 30 July.

He also admitted assaulting a second police officer after he was taken to police headquarters.

Centenier David Webber asked that as part of Keane’s bail conditions, given the nature of the offences, that he be excluded from all licensed premises, with the exception of the hotel where he works.

Advocate Debbie Corbel, defending, asked that the matter be adjourned pending the preparation of a full social inquiry report to assist with sentencing.

Relief Magistrate David Le Cornu said: ‘These are quite serious offences and a background report will be helpful to the court.’

Mr Le Cornu banned Keane from licensed premises and adjourned the case until 29 August.
