This week the Planning Committee unanimously approved plans from Andium Homes to redevelop the site, which is currently home to a public car park, and a number of nearby listed buildings.
Andium has now said that it plans to commence demolition and enabling works early in the new year.
Andium operations director Mike Porter said: ‘We are very pleased with the unanimous decision of the Planning Committee to approve our proposals for the redevelopment of the Ann Court site.
‘The project, delivering 165 homes, forms a significant part of our strategic business plan and commitment to build 2,000 new homes by 2025.’
The £30 million project includes homes, an underground car park for residents and the public and a number of retail units.
Providence Street, which leads into Belmont Road, will also be closed to traffic and a new one-way system introduced.
