Lifeboat training begins

Last week it was announced that firefighters who are already trained to use the service’s rescue boat, as well as other volunteers, were to undergo a bespoke training course on how to operate the RNLI’s St Helier inshore RIB.

And this weekend the training started at St Catherine.

The charity hopes to have the inshore lifeboat back in service by mid-December. The George Sullivan all-weather lifeboat, which the RNLI took back to Poole earlier this month, is expected to return to the Island for training before the end of the year, the charity has said.

The RNLI closed the St Helier station almost two weeks ago, days after the local crew signalled their intention to split from the charity following a long-running dispute.
