Milder days ahead, says Met Office

Frost covered fields across parishes for the first time in some weeks as ground temperatures went below 0°C.

However, Jersey Met Office says that it looks like temperatures could reach 10°C on Christmas Day. The highest recorded air temperature for Christmas Day, since records began in 1981, was recorded in 2015 at 11.8°C.

Principal meteorological officer at Jersey Met John Searson said: ‘We predict that the temperatures will become more mild during the week and we think they will reach 9°C todayWEDNESDAY. They are likely to go into double figures towards the weekend.

‘The temperatures are warmer than average but are not unusual at this time of year.

‘We can expect to see more cloud going into the weekend and quite a bit of fog Wednesday which could affect flying conditions.

‘Looking forward to Christmas Day there is a suggestion that the wind will be coming from the south west and we could see temperatures of 10°C.’
