Hundreds brave the chilly sea for charity on Christmas Day

At Grève de Lecq, St Brelade’s Bay and Havre Des Pas, swimmers – and in many cases their dogs too – dived into 10°C waters to help raise money for charity.

The Jersey Surfboard Club’s festive dip, which raises money for Jersey Hospice, was relocated from it’s usual spot at the Watersplash in St Ouen’s Bay to St Brelade due to forecasted windy weather.

In the west, St Ouen FC club president Tommy A’Court joined scores of swimmers taking a dip in aid of Les Amis and the club. St Ouen Deputy Richard Renouf also took part in the event, which is also a memorial to the club’s late groundsman Micky Sansom and St Ouen’s late Procureur du Bien Public Dave Ellam.

The oldest of the Christmas Day swims – at Havre Des Pas – is organised by the Jersey Swimming Club and was held in aid of Jersey Cheshire Home. The event dates back more than 100 years.
