National Trust plan new meeting room

The National Trust for Jersey has submitted an application to the Planning Committee in regards to its headquarters The Elms, a complex of a traditional Jersey farmhouse and outbuildings, surrounded by farmland and meadows at the head of St Peter’s Valley.

In the design statement accompanying the application, the trust’s agent, Bob Le Mottée of Architectural Technology Services CI, says The Elms is a base for a number of the charity’s activities but there is a shortage of meeting and general-purpose facilities.

‘The trust is a vibrant and expanding organisation which endeavours to protect the natural and historical built environments, and to educate people on the importance of these matters,’ he says in the statement.

‘This space would enable the trust and associated groups to meet, when other areas are occupied and it would provide an additional functions area when activities take place within the original farmyard.’

The trust is also applying to relay the driveway into The Elms with recycled cobbles as the existing hoggin surface is subject to erosion from the amount of traffic accessing the site.

The application documents can be viewed online on the Planning pages of gov.je or by visiting the Planning offices at South Hill.
