Christopher Francis Blackwell (28), of Raleigh Avenue, is alleged to have committed the offence on 4 August in Queen’s Road.
He is also charged with driving a vehicle on the same occasion with defective tyres and bodywork, and driving while the vehicle’s lights were not in good working order.
John Reidy (71) died on 8 August, four days after allegedly being hit by a car metres from his home.
In tributes after his death he was described as a ‘smiley’ and ‘chatty’ man who had lived a simple life.
Mr Blackwell is also charged with being in possession of the class B drug cannabis at police headquarters on 4 August.
In the Magistrate’s Court this week Advocate Adam Harrison, defending, said that the defence needed some technical reports to be prepared and asked for a three-week adjournment.
Assistant Magistrate Peter Harris said that it was a serious matter and that a decision would be taken at the defendant’s next appearance on whether the case should be sent to the Royal Court.
The case was adjourned until 5 February.
