First Tower to be lit up on big occasions?

The First Tower Community Association has applied for permission to fit the Conway tower with lights to ‘highlight a landmark in the parish of St Helier’.

According to the plans, the tower would be illuminated for a limited period on some evenings.

It is proposed that the lights would be fitted to the tower’s low-level render band, which is a later addition to the structure.

Aluminium cages would be included to protect the lights from vandalism and ‘to enhance the durability of the fittings’.

A report, which was submitted as part of the application, says: ‘By fitting these lights on First Tower, it allows the opportunity to use different colours on the building to signify an event or important awareness colours.

‘For example, Fort Regent illuminate their building for local or global occasions using a singular significant colour.

‘Other than occasions the tower will be complemented by a warm white light, highlighting the building’s
stonework.’
