Tributes paid to Guernsey healthcare worker who died in Thailand

Louise Furey, originally from Ireland, is understood to have died on the island of Koh Samui on Saturday.

Thai police are now investigating the 27-year-old’s death with the assistance of officers from her home town of Glenties, according to reports.

A spokesman for Guernsey’s Health and Social Care Department said Ms Furey, who worked at The Croft residential unit for children with disabilities, was a ‘wonderful woman’.

He added: ‘Health & Social Care staff were devastated to learn of the tragic death of our colleague Louise Furey in Thailand, where she was on holiday with her boyfriend. She was a wonderful young woman just starting out on a promising career, where her commitment to
caring for children, in particular, was evident.

‘We are working to ensure staff closest to Louise are supported and our thoughts are with her loved ones at this incredibly difficult time.’

According to the Irish Sun, one of the theories being examined by police is that Ms Furey may have sleepwalked off the balcony.

In tributes on Facebook, friends described the islander as a ‘beautiful and funny’ woman.

‘I’m just in disbelief Lou… I don’t feel like I have many close friends but you passed with flying colours as soon as I met you. You are and always will be my beautiful, funny, Irish friend and you will never be forgotten,’ said one friend.
