Singing stars scheduled for 2018

Warren Holt’s RockIt Ltd – which last year brought over singer and songwriter Passenger and Queen tribute act Killer Queen – will be staging a series of one-off concerts featuring famous faces from the world of music, including a former X Factor runner-up, an indie singer and a multi-award-winning star.

The first performer, Rebecca Ferguson, will be entertaining Islanders at the Jersey Opera House next month.

The songstress, who came second on the TV talent show The X Factor in 2010, will be taking to the theatre’s stage for one night on Thursday 1 March, followed by a performance at St James Concert Hall in Guernsey the following evening.

Since appearing on the hit ITV series, the Liverpudlian singer has released four studio albums, all of which charted in the UK Top Ten, has toured America, Europe and the UK, and was nominated for Best Female at the 2012 MOBO Awards. Her debut album, Heaven, sold more than 120,000 copies in its first week, making her the fastest-selling debut solo artist of the past decade.

Commenting on the event, Mr Holt said: ‘We’re stoked to be bringing Rebecca to the islands this March. Since The X Factor she’s blossomed into an incredible solo artist. Music fans are in for a real treat.’

The 31-year-old singer narrowly missed out on winning The X Factor in 2010, losing to Matt Cardle, but came one place ahead of world-famous boyband One Direction. She released her latest album, Superwoman, produced by Mark Ronson and Amy Winehouse collaborator Troy Mille, in October.

On Thursday 3 May, the theatre will then play host to Gabrielle Aplin, a singer who shot to fame playing acoustic covers on YouTube and has since hit number one with her cover of Frankie Goes to Hollywood’s The Power of Love, after it featured on a John Lewis Christmas advert.

On Friday 18 May, indie singer-songwriter Jake Bugg will make his long-awaited return to Jersey, performing at Fort Regent accompanied by his full band. The 23-year-old, who has four studio albums and a host of hit singles – such as Two Fingers, Lightning Bolt and Broken – last performed in the Island six years ago.

‘After booking Jake twice in the same year for Folklore and Jersey Live back in 2012, it’s taken years of plugging away to bring this incredibly talented young man back to Jersey,’ said Mr Holt.

And on Thursday 13 September, RockIt Ltd will then be bringing over singer-songwriter James Blunt to perform at Fort Regent. The multi-platinum star, who recently celebrated selling 20 million albums, will be performing in Jersey for the first time, delivering hits from his five studio albums including 1973, Bonfire Heart, and the worldwide number one, You’re Beautiful.

Tickets for all of the concerts are available online from Rockit.je and Eventbrite.co.uk.
