Autism Jersey launch public consultation

The charity is asking its members, users and professional partners to explain to them what they would want from a new building.

Autism Jersey had intended to move to new premises in Trinity, but the plans fell through last year. The charity has now appointed former chairman Philip Le Claire as project manager – with a two-year time frame to complete the big move.

Mr Le Claire said that after spending the last 13 years in various buildings, all of which had been rented, the aim was for Autism Jersey to have a permanent home in the Island which is suitable for its members.

‘We need to find out what people with autism in Jersey need from this centre,’ Mr Le Claire said.

‘That’s why we are holding this consultation and we need as many people to get in touch as possible. We need to find somewhere permanent. Change is always really difficult for most people with autism, so constantly moving our base is not helpful.’

Autism Jersey chairman Nick Winsor said: ‘Our vision is to have a Centre for Autism and a range of residential accommodation which caters to the needs of people on the autism spectrum. I am very pleased to welcome Philip back to Autism Jersey to help make this become a reality.’

Anyone with views on what the new centre should feature, where it should be, or how it should be run, should get in touch with Mr Le Claire on 871888 or by emailing p.leclaire@autismjersey.org.
