Three taken to hospital after ‘serious crash’

One had to be freed from the wreckage with hydraulic equipment by firefighters, who attended the crash site at the junction of La Profonde Rue and Rue de la Piece Mauger, in Trinity, alongside police officers and paramedics.

La Profonde Rue was closed while the emergency services treated the injured, examined the scene and cleared the vehicles from the road. The police described the incident as ‘serious’.

An investigation is under way to determine how the blue Fiat Punto ended up on two wheels, with its back end on the roof of a red Fiat 500 and its bonnet hard against a tree. The collision occurred in bright sunshine on one of the driest and clearest weekends for some time.

Watch Commander Richard Ryan, of the Fire Service, said that two fire engines and ten firefighters attended the incident.

‘On arrival, two of the vehicle occupants were receiving emergency medical treatment on the roadside and one person was trapped inside their car due to injuries and vehicle damage,’ he added.

‘Working with the on-scene paramedics, firefighters quickly got to work with stabilisation equipment, hydraulic rescue tools and casualty care. The boot lid was removed and space created to allow access and egress for the trapped casualty, who was extricated onto a long board before being transferred to hospital by ambulance.’
