New public path plan to be explored

Deputy Eddie Noel has now authorised his officers to begin finding a route through public land but also to explore the viability of routing the track through private property, if negotiations with landowners are possible.

A ministerial decision outlining the idea says that even if a feasible solution is found, the department would still need to secure planning permission in order for the project to go ahead.

Last year, the department completed the 3 km-long St Peter’s Valley path which stretches from Tesson Chapel to La Dimerie.

It is also in the process of installing another off-road path across the English and French harbour to link with the existing route between Havre des Pas and the Railway Walk.

Deputy Noel said: ‘This path would be a terrific link for people across the north west of St Helier and provide a lovely scenic route which I think will prove popular with the public.’
