The 60-year-old was left in the road with multiple fractures to her upper body following the collision on Rouge Bouillon on Wednesday evening. A short time later, a 35-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by careless driving and failing to stop and report an accident.
He was yesterday in custody at police headquarters.
According to the force, the woman was struck by a white van as it turned out of Norfolk Terrace at about 6.45 pm. The van failed to stop and continued on towards Midvale Road.
The road was closed from the top of Midvale Road to the roundabout at the bottom of Queen’s Road for a number of hours from about 7 pm while officers examined the scene.
A Hospital spokesman said the woman was yesterday in a stable condition in the intensive care unit.
Investigating officers have appealed for any member of the public who witnessed the collision, or who may have been in the area with a dashcam or headcam, to contact them on 612612.
Meanwhile, the police say they want to ‘urgently’ speak to the owner of a dog which was clipped by a van near La Mare car park in St Clement at about 5.30 pm on Wednesday.
The driver stopped and then drove off after the pedestrian confirmed the dog was uninjured. The dog’s owner, who was wearing a white puffa jacket and jeans, is being asked to phone the States police on 612612.
