Town locations have parking time reduced

Six-hour disc spaces at Commercial Buildings are due to be replaced with two-hour paycard spots.

In the same area, 20-minute unloading bays and one-hour paycard spaces are also being introduced for people visiting nearby businesses.

Meanwhile, a three-hour disc zone on Mount Bingham, near to Green Street, is to be replaced with a two-hour paycard zone.

And a two-hour disc zone on Roseville Street is to become a two-hour paycard zone.

Anyone not wishing to use paycards can use the PayByPhone smartphone app instead.

The department hopes the changes will minimise the current abuse of parking rules and lead to a higher turnover of cars using the spaces.

Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel said that the changes would bring the parking zones in line with most other town roadside parking areas.

‘We have these three small areas which are regulated by using a yellow parking disc,’ he said.

‘It seems sensible to bring them in line with the rest of our roadside parking, simplifying the payment options.’

The changes are due to come into force in the coming weeks.
