Changes to planning regulations?

During a Scrutiny panel hearing, Deputy Steve Luce said that his department would soon be publishing updated ‘supplementary planning guidance’ to help Islanders who want to make improvements to their homes.

He added the move would make it easier for Islanders to replace historic windows and doors with newer materials and to possibly install double-glazing.

During the hearing, Environment Department chief officer Andy Scate said: ‘We are going to say that you still need to apply for planning but there will generally be more flexibility.

‘The guidance will be more clear. We want people to be able to live comfortably in their homes and to improve their homes more easily.’

The minister added that he hoped the new guidance would be in place before May’s general election but it would ‘go to the wire’.

The comments came during a hearing of the Environment, Housing and Infrastructure Scrutiny panel, which was attended by Deputy Tracey Vallois and Constable Sadie Le Sueur-Rennard.
