Lower speed limits

Lower speed limits

Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel has signed a ministerial decision reducing the speed limits on roads in St Clement, St John, St Lawrence and St Peter, as well as a large number of roads in St Brelade. The changes were requested by the parishes as part of the Road Safety Action Plan, with other parishes due to be reviewed in the coming months.

Deputy Noel said: ‘The work carried out to develop Future Jersey [the long-term community vision] shows that road safety is important to people in Jersey.

‘Reviewing speed limits to ensure they are suited to the roads, balancing the needs of all road users, is the first step toward our objective to make the Island’s roads safer for everyone. I look forward to being able to sign similar decisions for other parishes over the coming months.’

The changes will make most of the public roads in St Brelade 30 mph or lower, with a large number of rural roads changing from 40 mph to 30 mph.

Road signs are currently being installed and drivers are asked to watch out for the changes, which will come into force on 10 April.

The changes include reductions to: 15 mph on part of Rue de la Blinerie in St Clement; 30 mph on certain roads in St John; 20 mph on part of Grande Route de St Laurent; 30 mph on part of Rue des Sapins in St Peter; 20 mph and 30 mph on certain roads in St Brelade.
