Road safety schemes are given £270,000 funding

Work will be carried out on Janvrin Road and Longueville Road, with completion dates of June and September respectively.

The Longueville project – which it is estimated will cost £250,000 – will include the installation of three new pedestrian crossings, the widening of a footway and alterations to a bus lay-by and shelter at the Victor Hugo wine warehouse.

The use of anti-skid surfaces at the junction of Longueville Road and Rue des Prés is to be reviewed, while a new anti-skid surface will be added to the junction with Plat Douet Road. Yellow box junctions will also be installed at both locations.

The pedestrian crossings will be installed at Miladi Farm shops, by the stop adjacent to Victor Hugo wine warehouse and at the end of the footway from Clos Gosset.

Meanwhile, a new zebra crossing is to be added on Janvrin Road outside Springfield Stadium. The work required will cost around £20,000 and follows a safety assessment of the area, which found that a new crossing was critical to accommodate the increasing numbers of children crossing the road to go to school during peak commuter times.

Referring to the Longueville Road scheme, Infrastructure Minister Eddie Noel said: ‘I’d like to thank the members of the community on the project board and those people who attended the consultation workshops for contributing to the development of this scheme. These improvements will make a great difference to the community.’
