The Musical Originals Training Choir, under choral director Imogen Nicholls, was one of five groups to reach the semi-final.
Comprising 29 local boys and girls aged from seven to 12, the choir travelled to the Pontio Centre in Bangor, North Wales, last weekend to compete against some of the best young choirs in the country.
The choir currently holds the national Children’s Choir of the Year title, and returned to the UK to take part in the competition, where they were
welcomed by well-known presenter Aled Jones.
The singers were the youngest in the competition and were the only choir to sing without piano accompaniment.
‘These children did themselves and their Island proud at the weekend.
‘There were lights and cameras everywhere while they were singing and they kept focused and sang with great professionalism and musicianship,’ said Ms Nicholls.
The judges were singer, vocal coach and TV presenter Carrie Grant, conductor, composer and TV presenter Ken Burton and BBC Songs Of Praise presenter and former JLS band member JB Gill, who praised their singing and described the children as ‘fearless’ in their performance of their songs and for singing without being accompanied by a piano at such a young age.
Songs of Praise will be shown on BBC1 from 4.15 pm on Sunday 29 April.
