Pre-poll voting opens at St Paul’s Centre today

Anyone who is on the main electoral register is able to cast their votes in the two weeks leading up to election day on Wednesday 16 May.

St Paul’s Centre in St Helier will be open on weekdays from 8.30 am to 5.15 pm from Monday 30 April, before closing at 2 pm on Monday 14 May. It will also be closed on the first May bank holiday and Liberation Day.

Islanders can also visit the weekend pre-poll stations at Trinity Youth Centre between 10 am and 1 pm on Saturday 5 May and Communicare in St Brelade between 10 am and 1 pm on Saturday 12 May.

Deputy Greffier Lisa Hart said: ‘Islanders don’t need a specific reason to pre-poll vote. If you registered before 9 April, then you can simply go along to St Paul’s Centre any time during the working week between 8.30 am and 5.15 pm to cast your vote.

‘Or, if it is more convenient, you can visit one of the out-of-town pre-poll voting stations on a Saturday between 10 am and 1 pm. Please bring photographic identification with you, such as your driving licence or passport.

‘Pre-poll allows everyone to vote in one place. No matter where you live you can vote at St Paul’s before 16 May if that suits you better – but you must have been registered to vote before 9 April.

‘Jersey has such a small population that every single vote really can make a difference.’

Anyone not registered but wishing to vote on polling day must join the electoral roll before midday on Wednesday 9 May. They can do so provided they are 16 or over and have lived in Jersey for either the last two years, or the last six months plus any other periods which total five years.

You can either register online through the vote.je website or by completing an electoral register form and returning it to your parish hall.
