St Helier’s Foot Buildings step into the modern world

Members of the public were invited to look around the National Trust for Jersey properties at 4, 5 and 6 Pitt Street, as well as view the iconic advertising logo of His Master’s Voice, featuring Nipper the dog, that has been restored on the gable end of the former music shop.

During the day old records were played on gramophones and collections of memorabilia, including items found during the renovation, were on display.

Historic images of the buildings were projected and rooms were open to view.

The opening of the Foot Buildings and unveiling of the HMV logo were performed by Georgina Malet de Carteret, president of the National Trust for Jersey, and Ben Shenton, president of the Channel Islands Co-operative Society.

The redevelopment also includes the creation of the River of Light walkway in Pitt Street.

The buildings were bought from the Co-op for a nominal sum by the trust as part of the redevelopment of the Charing Cross area.
