Francis Plaistowe, who was born in Paris and has three children, died on Sunday at the Maison St Brelade Care Home with his family by his side.
The veteran had a long history of military service, joining the British Army in 1942 at the age of 19 and being commissioned into the Royal Warwickshire Regiment as a Second Lieutenant a year later.
On 30 June 1944 he was deployed to France and fought with the second battalion of the Lincolnshire Regiment, eventually taking over as a platoon commander.
After leaving France in September 1944, Mr Plaistowe served in a number of countries including Belgium, Holland and Germany before returning to the UK.
In 1946 he was promoted to Captain in Australia, where he met his wife of 57 years, Joan, before leaving the army in 1947.
In 2016 Mr Plaistowe was presented with the Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur medal by Jersey’s French Consul, David Myatt, on behalf of the French Ambassador. The medal is awarded to those who have demonstrated outstanding service in a military or civil capacity.
