Piquet House plaques show different dates

According to a Vingtaine de La Ville sign, on the wall of Piquet House in the Royal Square, the site was used by military officers until 1924.

However, an adjacent sign, unveiled by the States police in 1996, claims the site was used by them until 1926.

In a letter to St Helier Constable Simon Crowcroft, Eric Falla explained the issue.

‘With Piquet House, to the right of the front door on the wall there are two plaques, one square and one round,’ he said.

‘The square one states that “this house was a military police station until 1926″.

‘The round one states it was a military police station until 1924. This needs looking into.’

In response, Mr Crowcroft thanked Mr Falla and said he had now flagged up the issue with the relevant authorities.

‘I have written a long letter to Eric and I congratulate him on his perceptiveness, as this was not pointed out to me before,’ he said.

‘I have raised the issue with Jersey Heritage and the Infrastructure Department to get it put right.

‘Eric is very observant and very valuable to the parish as the majority of people would simply walk by and not say anything, whereas Eric brings it to our attention and gets things fixed.’
