Music director hands over the baton

Tim Pritchard is due to conduct his final performance with Jersey Premier Brass next month at a free concert at Howard Davis Park.

As musical director, Mr Pritchard – who is also head of music at Les Quennevais School – helped lead the band to a national championships victory in 2005.

He is stepping down after 21 years with the band to move to Marbella.

Band chairman Keith Sunter said: ‘Tim has exuded constant professionalism, drive and enthusiasm during his long spell as musical director.

‘Under his supportive leadership, Jersey Premier Brass has gone from strength to strength, both in the Island, nationally and now internationally with our competing in France. The announcement he was stepping down is a very sad one for all involved in the band.’

The free concert is due to take place on Thursday 2 August at 7.30 pm. Mr Pritchard will be replaced as conductor by Brent Connan, who plays in the band’s percussion section.

Mr Sunter added: ‘It [the concert] will be a very emotional evening for the band and its supporters. One that we want to dedicate to Tim, his wife, Angela, and their wonderful children. We really do thank them all and wish them the very best for the future.

‘While Tim’s departure is a great loss, Brent’s appointment is a great opportunity for the band. With such a strong and stable platform to build from, we are all excited to see Jersey Premier Brass take on new challenges and reach new heights.’

Meanwhile, Jersey Premier Brass has launched an appeal for rehearsal space, asking Islanders with a vacant barn, shed or building to get in touch. Anyone wishing to help can contact Mr Sunter on 07797 732752 or email keithandbabs@hotmail.com.
